Chat FAQ
How do I start chatting? You have to make an account first before you can access either one of the chat rooms. To make an account, go to the Register button by the account menu. From there, you can make a name for your account and a valid email address that we can contact you at.
For examples of names that you can have for your account, refer to this question in the Character FAQ about naming characters.
How do you talk in the chat room? Simple. Click sign on and it will show you have entered the chat. Then click the text box, write what you want to say and click post. It will show up in the chat within seconds.
How do I know who is talking to who? Most chatters address who they are talking to within the room. If someone does not, ask them to clarify if you are confused.
What are the ‘@’ and '+' at the beginning of people's names? If you see someone with a '@' by their name, they are a moderator of the chat room. They have the power to ban you if you misbehave. Despite the fact that they have power, they still are normal people and will treat you with respect.
People who have the '+' by their name are helpers, of sorts. They are people who are not moderators, but people who help newcomers learn the ropes and answer questions about role playing. They also step in if someone does something that is not allowed in the chat and have the power to call on a moderator if needed.
How do format my chat? You can use html tags, such as bold, italics and underline in your chat when needed. We stress to not make all your chat like this, as this is annoying and hard for people to read. Just because someone has the same color as you in the chat room does not mean you have to italicise your text.
Do I have to change my color if anyone's using it? No, because your name will be above the text. Do not ask anyone to change their color because you have used that color longer then the other person--they do not have to.
How do I do images? You cannot upload images into the chat. That is covered more in the next question. But you can use the ones on the site that are provided for you.
I do certain code, but it doesn't show up! Why? If you are trying to post sound clips and videos, they have been disabled due to abuse. No one wants a page to refresh and have it hearing the same sound clip every time it does. It also is known to freeze certain browsers.
Uploading images have been disabled to stop sucking out bandwidth and for reloading the image every time the chat refreshes.
You can, however, post hyperlinks in the room that people can click to. This will open it in another window.
How do I report someone? You should try to solve the problem you have having between the party you are fighting with. If this does not work, you can contact Lag.Com or Ryvnn via email or instant messenger.
I want to leave the chat, so how do I do it? Simple. Just tell everyone you are leaving, tie up your conversation, and click sign out. This lets everyone know you have left. Then sign out of your account if you are leaving the site.
How do I become a moderator? I want to help! We appreciate your interest in wanting to be a moderator. However, don't ask right away. Become established and see if you really want to be part of this community. We do not let people moderate that have just signed up, signed in once, and then never sign in again.
If after a few months you still have an interest in helping the community, you can contact Lag.Com or Ryvnn. Please make your request via email, as we do not want people to start fights or cause chaos within the chat rooms.
