How Lufia.net Began A Legacy of Fanfictionists

I remember a long time ago when Lufia.net was first an HTML page. Where there was a small collective of Lufia fans and were there was really only one girl fanatic who would post with the boys. Where for once, the girl was not crazy among a small group of people, whereas her mother thought this would be a year phase.

That girl would be me. Yes, that's right. Me. ;p

When I first started playing Lufia, I was obsessed. I had a crush on this guy at school and he immediately was my 'Devur'. Today that has changed to a dramatic degree. But I tried writing an actual play for it, tried getting people to perform it. That was the start of my Lufia fanfiction career. The first Lufia story ever, The Sinistrals Return, where Aguro was replaced with a girl I made called Sarah. Of course, this grew to where I wanted to write a Lufia novel.

Sadly, that document is lost, both on diskette and on paper. And that was where the nickname 'Lufia' was born. The IM name came later as a joke, but just stuck.

Looking for fanfiction, I founded Forfeit Island on my internet travels and realised something.

No one had Lufia fanfiction. I became the first person in the Lufian community to post it to more then one site. I believe that Jessie Fisher was the first one on Lufia.net, called Arek's Revenge., two days before my story was posted. And the inspiration came from finding Lufia.net on a dare from a girl named Stephanie Demetis, back in the seventh grade when I was 12, turning 13. I remember seeing character profiles, walkthroughs to the game, question and answer guide and more importantly, someone who had a love for it more then I.

Cobes did not know it, but he inspired many dreams when he opened Lufia.net to the world.

Besides inspiring other Lufia fans to make sites and making his forum where they can interact, it opened up many possibilities. Trying to get help from others. Discussing the game. Polls on which pixilated women was cuter (yes, you guys, I STILL think you all are sicko! ;p), on what music everyone liked. It also got people to start drawing more Lufia art and trying to start a Lufia RP.

Yes, sadly, I had that idea too. ;p Three or four years ago. I'm sorry that I have neglected it for so long. But I had fun there. I had fun teaching, learning, growing with the people I grew/hung around with on the board. I grew closer to the moderators, and learned how to become more of a leader then a follower. When Spam Wars came with gleneaglemusic.net, that was when we realised that Lufia.net was our home and that we would not lose it so easily, as DBAM tried to put in an unfinished story called Spam Wars.

This seven to eight year obsession has inspired me to write many stories, which has helped my writing. It has helped me create and make new friends. It also got me to try to do a project with Kitt, who I think is one of the best Lufia fanartists out there. Tia is as well and she should be given lots of credit for making DBAM happy with his Melphis picture.

A few of the memories that kept me coming back when life was at an all time low was that people there were supportive and acted like you were someone. They understood that you had feelings, that you were human. Even Beniot and Skull Leader do sometimes, through the personalites that they show. And when DBAM isn't infecting the world with SPAM. ;p (I still love you all.) I also met one of the most important friends that I have today through the Lufia.net forum, Darconnis, who's dream in life was to make a rated X Lufia parody. And yes, after meeting him, I can confirm that his ideas are just as insane when he's offline.

Cobes, you helped this fanfictionist in more ways then one. You have let me put the stories on the board for people to comment, critique and evaluate on. To all the editors and all who have read and have helped with the stories and even laughed at the stories, thank you. Bus Stop Disaster would not have been possible without Lufia.net because of the ablitity for the imagination to run wild. Neither would Stupid Questions, Stupid Answers, which I have seen on FI's forum. Or the You Know You Play Too Much Lufia If list, which is also on my deviantart site.

Somewhere, no matter if they never been to Lufia.net, they have heard about it, even if they're strictly in deviantart.com. Devur is another fanfictionist that I know that has heard of Lufia.net, but only read fanfiction when I first met him. I don't know today if he has been there.

Basically, this is my closing thoughts on Lufia.net, it's community that has swelled from a whopping 20/30 people to a good 400 people, of which only 40-50 really post, and on the way that it has helped someone who gave something back to the Lufia community. When it does move or go down from Lufia.net, may it rest in peace.
